Fake Criterion Cover: BICYCLE THIEVES

Designed by: TheFlyOnTheWall
Criterion’s official art for Vittorio De Sica’s neo-realist masterpiece ain’t too shabby, but i was definitely struck by the extent to which this take on the film completely upends the doleful imagery that is so often associated with post-war Italian cinema. it’s urgent and relatively colorful without making light of the film’s wrenching drama… i can dig it.
(although i should point out that, according to most scholars, Bicycle Thieves was *not* made in 2009).
